HOUDINI, Harry (Erik Weisz, 1874?1926). Insane Restraint Challenge and Crazy Crib Photograph. The typed challenge dated October 27, 1915 and written on sheriff's letterhead. Addressed to Houdini at the Orpheum Theatre of Portland, Oregon, the jailer of Multnomah County challenges the magician to ?escape from a regulation full length escape restraint." Affixed below the letter is a black-and white image of Houdini tied in a ?crazy crib," a makeshift restraint comprised of wet bed sheets strapped to a low metal bed frame. Overall dimensions 13 x 8 ?". Chipping and wear, with scrapbook remnants to verso. Provenance: Collection of Beatrice Houdini, passed to consignor by descent.
