[HOUDINI] VERDI, Giuseppe (1813 - 1901). CDV of Verdi Signed by Houdini. Paris: Disderi, ca. 1860. Three-quarter length seated portrait of the famed Italian opera composer. Carte de Visite format on printed photographer's mount. 4 1/8 x 2 3/8". BOLDLY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY HOUDINI on the verso, "Compliments of Houdini."

Houdini owned a large and important collection of theatrical material. It is likely that this portrait of the famed "opera king" was once part of this significant part of Houdini's library. The image of Verdi was captured by Disderi at his studio on the Boulevard des Italiens, located in the same building as the famed magic venue, the Theatre Robert-Houdin. Personal gifts from Houdini are seldom encountered.

Condition

One corner bumped, old collection rubber stamp to verso.
