HUNT, [Isobel] Violet (1862-1942). The Tiger Skin. London: William Heinemann, 1924. 8vo. [4], 133, [3, blank] pp. Publisher's orange-brown cloth stamped blind and gilt in original illustrated dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING OF THIS EXPANDED HORROR NOVELLA BY THE BRITISH SUFFRAGIST.
Hunt, a founding member of PEN International, authored numerous feminist novels and has been the subject of renewed academic interest for her literary salons, which hosted modernist giants such as Ezra Pound, Joseph Conrad, Rebecca West, and Henry James. She served as the inspiration for "Rose Waterfield" in Somerset Maugham's The Moon and Sixpence, and was briefly his lover. She also had a brief affair with H. G. Wells. An earlier version of "The Tiger Skin" appeared in her supernatural collection Tales of the Uneasy in 1911, and appears here revised and expanded. SCARCE IN DUST JACKET.
