[WITH:] 29 facsimile drawings housed in a large cloth portfolio as issued by the Scottish Academic Press to accompany the trade edition. The Theory of the Earth is often credited with laying the foundations of modern geological theory; in it, Hutton argued that the Earth was in fact much older than Biblical scholars claimed, and that rocks could prove it. The book would ultimately go on to influence Charles Darwin?s Theory of Evolution.
