Bologna: Lelio dalla Volpe, 1769. 8vo. [42] pp. Engraved device on title page and fourteen engraved vignettes (depicting a flying machine, a satyr, Pegasus, etc.) and two tailpieces (the latter personifying the city of Bologna). Contemporary paste paper blue sprinkled boards with a gilt floral border. FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE ILLUSTRATED ITALIAN POETRY BOOK, WITH AN ILLUSTRATION OF AN EARLY FLYING MACHINE.

Condition

Some chipping on spine (one chipped area with color correction), light rubbing to binding, text foxed with occasional soiling. Very good.

Bookplate of Carlo Enrico Rava (1903-1986), the important Italian architect and designer. A very rare collection of fourteen poems in honor of Conte Malvasia's successful term of office as Bologna's chief officer of justice. OCLC lists one copy, which is in France (Bibliotheque Nat. & Univ. Strasbourg).
