Contemporary full brown diced calf, boards double-ruled in gilt with gilt floral cornerpieces, spine ruled and tooled in gilt in compartments, seven raised bands, burgundy gilt morocco lettering label.
Condition
Front board and ffep. detached yet present, ffep. chipped and worn, binding heavily worn, soiled, text and plates a bit toned, somewhat foxed at margins, double-page plate and map toned and somewhat soiled. Armorial bookplate of Edward Shipperdson on fp. Very good, not usually found complete, with plates fairly clean. FIRST EDITION OF THIS MONUMENTAL COLLECTION OF VIEWS OF ROME. Overbeke reportedly spent 20 years editing this massive work (this work, his magnum opus, was published by his cousin, Michel, after his death).
