Kitchen, Inez (Inez Nourse). Inez Blackstone’s Fredrik the Great / Blackstone Scrapbook. Owned and kept by Harry Blackstone’s first wife, the scrapbook includes countless clippings, notes, and one or two photographs of her own theatrical career as the “Banjo Fiend”, beginning with her solo career in 1916 and extending into the 1920s after she met, worked with, and eventually married Harry Blackstone. Central to the contents are a lengthy handwritten account of Inez’s first meeting with Blackstone, her role in the show, her early days as part of his act, and other details of life on the road with what would become one of the great traveling American magic shows of the era. The memoir, written in her own hand, is scrawled on envelopes and lined papers, and is laid in to the book, and is accompanied by a typewritten transcription. Printed handbills, theater programs, and newspaper advertisements show Inez and her banjo act as part of the Frederik show, and are accompanied by a handful of early Blackstone memorabilia (programs and one piece of correspondence). Oblong 4to, contents loose and pasted down. Somewhat shaken, but overall good condition.
