[Baseball] Japanese Woodblock Printed Elementary School Textbook. Japan: Ministry of Education, 1874 (Meiji period). Yellow printed wraps made of washi (Japanese paper); stitched. Profusely illustrated with woodblock images including one of the first printed mentions of baseball in Japan. 16mo. Wraps soiled with slight creasing, few pages bumped; interior generally clean. Baseball was introduced in Japan in 1873 by an American teacher in Tokyo, Horace Wilson; around the same year this book was printed.
