Barrymore was the lead actor in ?My Dear Children" at the Selwyn Theatre in Chicago in 1939. Barrymore would reportedly forget large portions of his lines in the play and ad-lib through his part, with heavy profanity. The show was a success nonetheless and played in several theaters, although Barrymore was censured for his profanity-laced performance in Omaha.
