JONES, Shields Landon (American, 1901-1997) Crucifix. ca. 1980. Carved and painted wood. 25 x 12 1/2 x 8? overall. S.L. Jones is best known for his stylized wood carved and painted busts. This simple joined, and glued painted cross has a hand carved Jesus that has the visual elements of Jones? classic carving. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and the Museum of American Folk Art. Light surface dirt. Light marks inherent overall. Good condition.
