KELLAR, Harry (1849 - 1922). Two-Page ALS to Harry Houdini. Dated July 4, 1908 and written entirely in Kellar's hand on two 8vo sheets of commemorative stationery from his hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, the illusionist writes regarding his career in great detail, including his work with The Davenport Brothers, and as part of the performing trio billed as "The Royal Illusionists."

The note reads, in part, "Cunard was Al. Hayman's Brother, Dave Hayman, he worked in the Cabinet with me - the Davenport rope tying act. W.H.H. Davenport died in the Oxford Hotel Sydney Australia. I cannot give a more explicit address of Ira E. Davenport....

"Yamadiva died on the Royal Mail Steamer "Khiva" on way from Shanghai to Hong Kong. Ling Look died in the Hospital in Hong Kong about six weeks after Yamadiva."

Kellar signs off with, "...kind regards to you, Mrs. Houdini & your dear mother. Sincerely, your friend, H. Kellar."

Kellar was a father figure and mentor to Houdini. With this letter he was undoubtedly answering Houdini's queries about the history of magic and the careers of its great performers. Kellar retired from the stage only two months before this letter was written, and would continue corresponding with Houdini to impart wisdom, advice, and historical tidbits until the elder magician's death in 1922.
