KELLAR, Harry (Heinrich Keller, 1849 ? 1922). Kellar/Chung Ling Soo Levitation Apparatus and Trunk. Circa 1890. Kellar's apparatus for a version of the Astarte levitation, including the sturdy upright with moveable carriage and winch, a body harness with leather and silk-covered straps to encircle the floating assistant's waist and legs, and the long metal-bound trunk lettered with the unmistakable name ?Kellar" in white and red block capitals, in a font similar to those used on the great magician's classic stone lithographed advertisements. Trunk dimensions 12 x 98 x 15 ?". Visible signs of wear, tear, and repair from regular use in performance, but sturdy and well-preserved. Sold as-is.This item was purchased at the November 3, 1920 sale of Chung Ling Soo's props and personal property, where it was offered as lot number 310, described as ?A Levitation winch in 9 ft. iron-bound trunk." The lot was purchased, along with many others, by Lewis Davenport of the famed London magic emporium bearing his name. Soo's wife, Suee Seen, worked in the Kellar show as the floating lady, and was most likely the assistant who performed this effect in Kellar's show, and later in the show of Chung Ling Soo. Please note that this item ships from the United Kingdom.
