KLAUBA, George (American b. 1938). Great American Sea Cult. Circa 1970. Canvas, fabric, ink, plastic and metal grommets. This is a very unusual work using Klauba's own sailor's uniform adorned with tattoo imagery over the uniform and a printed anatomical torso and his image as a sailor. George Klauba is a former seaman with the U.S. Navy. After the Navy he worked as a tattoo artist before continuing his career as a fine artist to this day. The Illinois State Museum has an extensive collection of Klauba’s work. His contemporary work is characterized by his narrative style, drawing from his experience as a traditional tattoo artist and relating it back to his personal life to blur the lines between painting and tattooing, canvas and flesh. 48 x 67 1/2".

Condition

Gradations of fading overall. Visual of work nicely intact. Wrinkles overall. Overall good condition.
