[LAMBE, John]. A Briefe Description of the Notorious Life of John Lambe otherwise called Doctor Lambe. Together with his Ignominious Death. Amsterdam, 1628. Marbled boards over smooth calf spine with corner tabs, spine lettered and ruled gilt. Woodcut to the title page showing the lynching of Lambe. Each page rubricated with red borders surrounding text. 4to. Manuscript notation in ink to flyleaf describes another account of Lambe. Bookplate of Chalres Clark, Totham, Essex to front pastedown. Extremities and corners quite rubbed, minor spotting to text. Very good. The mob that lynched Lambe (as pictured here) accused him of practicing black magic. He was an astrologer, quack doctor, and by many accounts, a true scoundrel.
