[HOUDINI] FITZPATRICK, J.C. (1876 - 1940). ALS From a Librarian of Congress Regarding the Unmasking of Robert-Houdin. Dated May 7, 1916 and written on two sheets of Library of Congress (manuscripts division) letterhead, Fitzpatrick compliments Houdini, "The value of your book as a contribution to historical literature is plain, is value as a reference work is real ..." and he also mentions that Houdini's "...collection must be marvellous and one that will always prove a source of pride to you ...." Two sheets affixed to an old scrapbook page at the upper margins. SIGNED by the librarian. Fitzpatrick was a stalwart at the library and an authority on George Washington and his writings, having presided over the publication of a 39-volume work on the writings of the founding father. Provenance: Collection of Beatrice Houdini, passed to the consignor by descent.
