LINCOLN, Abraham (1809?1865). Engraved document signed as President (?Abraham Lincoln?), countersigned by Simon Cameron, Secretary of War, 17 September 1861. One page (489 x 394 mm), on vellum, accomplished in manuscript, original embossed blue paper seal, docketed in manuscript to upper left corner by the Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas of the Adjutant General Office (dated 17 September 1861), edges folded over. Military appointment of Albemarle Cady (1807?1888) as lieutenant colonel in the 7th Infantry Regiment. Cady served as commander in the Second Seminole War, Mexican?American War, First Sioux War, after which he briefly served as lieutenant colonel in the American Civil War. He received brevet appointments for his services in both the Mexican?American War and the Civil War, later being appointed brevet brigadier general in the Regular Army by Andrew Johnson.
