1. Calling card signed by Jenny Lind, inscribed "Manchester," and dated 5 Sept 1847. Card with a lace-like embossed border. 2 x 3 5/8".
2. Letterhead with hand-colored lithograph of Lind with inscription "Jenny Lind as Alice in "Roberto il Diavolo." By Harris Brothers & Budge Row. Lind performed in this play in 1847 for Queen Victoria. 7 1/8 x 4 1/2".
Jenny Lind was a celebrated Swedish operatic soprano known as the "Swedish Nightingale." After experiencing great success in European opera during the 1840s, she retired from the stage at the age of 29. She was later famously recruited by P.T. Barnum for a widely publicized American tour from 1850 to 1852, and she generously donated her substantial earnings to charity.
Condition
Both with toning, foxing, creasing, and strips of old tape. Generally very good.
