[LITERARY JOURNAL]. [EGGERS, Dave (b. 1970), editor]. Issues #1-#25 of McSweeney's Literary Journal, Plus 3 Extras and 2 Duplicates. [San Francisco: McSweeney's Books, 1998-2007]. 8vos and 4tos. A total of 30 volumes. Various softcover or hardcover bindings, some in boxes, some with wrap around bands or dust jackets, where called-for. FIRST EDITIONS, NEARLY ALL FIRST PRINTINGS, MANY ARE SIGNED BY EGGERS. Issues #1-3 are second printings, the others are firsts (shrinkwrapped issues are presumed to be firsts). The following issues are signed by Eggers: 1-3, 5 (three different issues of #5 with 3 different dust jackets), 6 (with signed original drawing by Eggers, and inscription to "Lori"), 7 (signed on front cover), 8-10. Eggers signed extras include: Ted Koppel's Very Special Thing and You Shall Know Our Velocity. [And:] The Better of McSweeney's Volume One - Issues 1 - 10 (unsigned extra). Duplicates include: Issues #3 (first printing, unsigned), #5 (#5 is signed by Eggers). Issues 17, 18, 19, 22 are in publisher's shrinkwrap and are unexamined out of shrinkwrap. Several issues have unusual extras or are in uncommon bindings (for example, #4 and #7 are collections of boxed pamphlets, #11 is bound in leather with a CD, #16 has a fold over binding with cards, comb, and booklets, #17 is a shrink-wrapped issue with writings designed to look like mailed circulars, #19 is housed in cigar box, #24 is bound dos-a-dos).

After leaving his editing position at Esquire, Eggers founded Timothy McSweeney's Quarterly Concern (generally known as McSweeney's) in 1998. Issue #1 featured stories and articles previously refused by other publications; later issues have items written specially for McSweeney's. It has become a respected literary journal, with contributions by important modern authors including: Dave Eggers, Michael Chabon, Sarah Vowell, Neal Pollack, Haruki Murakami, David Foster Wallace (writing as Elizabeth Klemm), Philip Glass, William T. Vollman, Stephen King, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, Elmore Leonard, Joyce Carol Oates, and many more. McSweeney's is still being published (Eggers is still associated with McSweeney's but stopped his editing duties in 2014).

Condition

Some minor occasional rubbing, toning, box for issue #4 creased. Fine.
