Small 8vo. [1], LXXVI, [2], 452, [+12, index] pp. Engraved frontispiece by J. C. Philips. Engraved headpieces, vignettes, borders, and initial letters. Contemporary stiff vellum ruled and stamped in blind with a decorative central panel. Title in manuscript on spine, edges sprinkled red. FIRST DUTCH EDITION OF THE VERWER TRANSLATION OF LOCKE'S SOME THOUGHTS CONCERNING EDUCATION (1693).

Condition

Vellum lightly soiled and rubbed, a few creases to binding, occasional light foxing in text, gathering Y is slightly loose. Very good.

Bookplate of J. W. Six on fp. The Verwer translation is based on the 11th English edition of 1745; the translator has added voluminous notes relevant to Dutch culture. OCLC lists only four copies of this title, only one of which is in North America.
