Le Clerc, a Swiss Protestant by birth, was one of the outstanding figures in Anglo-Dutch intellectual history. The present work was written as a textbook for his own students and was used at Cambridge as a standard text for many years, going through five editions by 1716. The author's argument throughout generally follows that of Locke. This first edition is scarce; N.U.C. lists only one copy. Wing L821. Not in Fulton, Boyle.
