George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon is best remembered today as the financial backer of numerous archaeological expeditions in Egypt, the most famous of which being the discovery of King Tutahnkhamun?s tomb in 1922. He passed away four months later of an infected mosquito bite, purportedly the first victim of the infamous Curse of King Tut.
