LOSQUES, Daniel de (1880-1915). Mistinguett. 1911. Paris: H. Chachoin. The French performer known as Mistinguett stands at the center of a great green field with a large rose held behind her back. 79 ? x 44?. Linen backed. Closed tears at extremities; image unaffected. A-. Mistinguett began her career as a flower seller at her family?s restaurant who would sing popular ballads as she peddled her wares. She would go on to appear at the Moulin Rouge and the Folies Bergere, and in 1919 her legs were insured for 500,000 francs. De Losques, who was killed in World War I, created an image which remains one of the most iconic renderings of the popular performer.
