[MAGIGALS] Scrapbook and Ephemera Collection of Jessie L. Rickard. [Los Angeles, 1940s ? 50s]. Compiled and kept by a member of the parent assembly of the first all-female magic club, Jessie Rickard, who served as president of the organization (and in other roles). Included are business cards, invitations, photographs, convention badges, brochures, invitations, postcards, birthday and Christmas cards and other sentiments, envelopes and letterheads, TLSs and ALSs, large-format photographic negatives, and even souvenir paper napkins saved by Rickard from various magic-related and Magigal-sponsored events from the 1940s and 50s. Featured are many prominent women in magic, fellow Magigals, and famous magicians, including the Leons, the Larsens, Harry Blackstone Sr., the Trasks, Dell O'Dell, Ann Mahendra, Floyd and Jennie Thayer (including photographs of and a gilt-lettered napkin from their golden wedding anniversary celebration), Beatrice Houdini and Edward Saint, and many more. One large photograph shows Beatrice Houdini helping fasten a man into a straitjacket. Many items SIGNED. Upper right corner of scrapbook with evidence of water damage, but most contents in very good condition; loose ephemera showing usual signs of wear. A fascinating archive of material related to this female-focused magic club and the post-war magic scene in southern California.
