Illustrated with 10 full-page and 4 double-page hand-colored maps, several of which are engraved. Title-page and Contents on wrappers as issued (no title-page in book, as issued). Publisher's green leather backstrip over printed boards. FIRST EDITION, POSSIBLE MIXED ISSUE, WITH FIRST ISSUE MAPS OF THE NORTH AMERICA AND UNITED STATES MAPS, SHOWING THE REDUCED SIZE OF THE TEXAS TERRITORY, BUT WITH TWO MAPS DATED 1840. 

The 1840 maps are Great Britain and Germany (all other maps dated 1839). Several maps stated "Engraved by J. H. Young." No roman numeral date on front cover (possibly indicating an early issue of the cover, instead of the first issue). "Mountains of Kong" visible on Africa map.

Binding worn, chipped, soiled, endleaves foxed and soiled, hinges starting, ffep. creased, text and maps toned, soiled, foxed. Still very good.
