MARSH, Herbert J. (1896 ? 1969). Scrapbooks of Magic Secrets and Ephemera. 1920s ? 60s. Three folio-size scrapbooks, each partially filled with clippings, business cards, or handwritten directions to various magic effects. The first two, partially-filled, feature business cards, news and magazine clippings, invitations, brochures, programs, tickets, postcards, and other ephemera from British magicians; the third book is approximately 1/3 filled with manuscript descriptions and explanations of effects, by well-known British performers, frequently accompanied by neat sketches in Marsh's hand. Together with four notebooks kept by Marsh explaining the secrets to various tricks and logging shows he performed; another scrapbook of Rag Picture designs with artwork in his hand; a scrapbook filled with clippings and programs (including one Chung Ling Soo clipped program and his elaborate dragon letterhead); and another notebook with two or three pages in Marsh's hand.
