Mechanical Rising Cards. Philadelphia: Carl Brema & Son, ca. 1920. Selected cards rise on command from a finely machined, nickel-plated houlette that rests on the table of the magician. Clockwork mechanism incorporated into the heavy base runs on command, but stops when the houlette is picked up by the magician. 10 ½” high. Sold together with hand-written and illustrated notes by signed by Carl Brema describing the working of the apparatus. Fine. Brema’s note states, in part, “Only 3 of this model have ever been built. We gave up making clock work packs as we can not purchase the proper kind of Swiss clock movements.”
