A lovely wall plaque of the Duke in the form of a gilt brass medallion and figural crown mounted on wood and backed in pressed leatherette. Bust of Wellington approximately 2 ?? in diameter. Wooden plaque approximately 5 ? x 5?. Minor occasional wear to frame on front and rear, some loss of the gilt work on the extremities. Fine. This piece has been identified as dating from the Duke's lifetime but we feel may date from the period of his death in 1852, as a commemorative. It is beautifully executed and a lovely three dimensional study. An uncommon, charming and compelling miniature.
