With black ribbon and red and white enamel shield over metal ribbon. Medal has white enamel 8-pointed star (enamel on both sides) and elaborate crown. Some tarnishing to metal. A good example of this rare medal. The Knights of Malta have been in existence in various forms since 1099 and is the oldest religious and military order still in existence.
