MONROE, James (1758?1831). Engraved document signed as President (?James Monroe?) to the Second Governor of Alabama, Thomas Bibb, 29 November 1822. Countersigned by the commissioner of the General Land Office, John McClean. One page, on vellum (241 x 934 mm), accomplished in manuscript, paper seal. Creased from folding with three tiny holes along folds. Monroe grants Thomas Bibb of Madison County, Alabama, over 92?acres of land. Bibb (1783?1839) served as the second governor of Alabama from 1820 to 1821 after his brother, William Wyatt Bibb, died in office, which by virtue of Thomas being president of the Alabama Senate, took over as governor for the remainder of his brother?s term.
