Handsomely bound by Bennet of New York in full morocco, covers and spine titled in gilt with the previous owner?s initials R.M.K. (R.M. Kaufmann) tooled into the front cover, large raised bands, broad turn-ins with gilt filets, marbled endpapers, a.e.g. Illustrated with 50 chromolithograph plates by William Gibb. Folio. Engraved bookplate of R.M. Kaufmann affixed to the limitation page, joints and spine ends faintly rubbed, interior joints reinforced; plates in fine condition. Provenance: Previously owned by R.M. Kauffman. The Kauffman family were newspaper owners and prominent philanthropists in Washington D.C. during the early 20th century.
