Napoleonic Cavalry Officer?s Toilette. [France, ca. 1800s]. This mahogany officer's toilette box measures approximately 8 ? x 4 ? x 2 ?? (with shield brass badge with engraved ?CR?) on hinged lid) complete with personal grooming and basic medical instruments. The tooled leather lift out tray has recesses for folding boot extractors, tweezers, scissors, picks and ruler, some of bone and mother of pearl. Under the tray is a tin tray, silver palette knife, and a soft bone handled (powder) brush. A compartment holds two crystal cut perfume bottles with stoppers and silver caps and a metal container with a screw top lid. Under the lid there is a concertina compartment with leather loops for correspondence, one of which contains old folded blotting paper. The label inside the felt lid reads ?Garnesson, Palais Royal No.225, et Gallerie de Pierre No.156, Su.5.? The original lock key is present. From the collection of Bertrand Malvaux. A fine example, exceedingly rare with these accessories.
