NASA / Boeing Lunar Orbiter V Photograph of the Moon (Marius Region). 1966. Vintage 8 x 10 black-and-white photograph depicting an oblique view of the lunar surface in the Marius uplands region, showing a dense field of craters and volcanic features along the Moon’s edge. The image was taken August 25, 1966 by Lunar Orbiter V and was intended for mosaic assembly and surface analysis, capturing terrain associated with the Marius Hills, an area noted for volcanic domes and considered significant for geological study. A printed caption from the News Bureau of The Boeing Company (Seattle, Washington) is affixed to the verso, describing the image and its scientific context within NASA’s lunar exploration program; the photograph is credited as a NASA/Boeing image. These photographs were produced as part of the Lunar Orbiter program, which played a critical role in mapping the Moon ahead of the Apollo missions. 8 x 10".
