After designing some 30 posters for the London Underground in the 1920s, Welwyn Garden City Ltd. hired Paine to design a series of posters to attract people to move to or visit the town north of London. Paine?s training in stained glass is apparent in many of his designs, featuring bold and sometimes mosaic-like forms.
