PERKINS, B. F. (American, 1904-1993). Patriotic Painted Gourd. Ca. 1980s. Gourd painted in acrylic. Gourd approximately 15 ?? high. Painted in American flag and Statue of Liberty motifs, with hanging wire. Gourd is signed in block letters. Minor rubbing. Fine. Perkins was a preacher as well as an artist; much of his art is replete with patriotic and religious symbolism. He is one of the most significant of the twentieth-century folk artists.
