This is an auction replete with standouts. Works by Magritte, Tamayo, Paschke, Wirsum and multiple mixed media collages and prints from the celebrated Tony Fitzpatrick will cross the block. A significant work by Bill Traylor leads the Outsider Art session, alongside major works by Finster, Yoakum, Dial, Sparrow, and Dawson. Folk art includes a carved grotto Jesus and Devil train set sculpture from Wisconsin, and three oversize leaves by Ivan Albright lead the fine art session. Illustrated with color frontispiece and 16 black and white full-page drawings and several vignettes by Edward Borein. 76 pages. 11 x 8". Two-page introduction by Owen Wister.SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by the author "Charles Elliot Perkins / Santa Barbara – Cal. / January 1928" along with AN ORIGINAL INK DRAWING signed by Borein and dated 1928 on the front endpaper. Engraved bookplate of John Stuart Groves on front endpaper. FIRST EDITION. In his introduction, Wister, known as the "Father of Western fiction," lauded this novel as "the best western story about a horse that I have ever read."

Original red stamped pictorial boards (joints worn, binding with minor rubbing at spine, and staining and toning to covers with edge wear. Pages with deckled edges. Minor foxing and toning.). No dust jacket.
