Album approximately 205 x 130 mm. 20 gelatin silver print photographs mounted with clear corners onto taupe cardstock leaves; photographs measure approximately 110 x 80 mm, with one being larger at 140 x 80 mm. String-tied album, gilt armorial stamp to front. Album of snapshot photographs taken by a European mariner in China. The timber trade is illustrated by a large vessel pulling logs in front of the Kaiyosha Wharf at Pootung, Shanghai, with numerous Chinese men standing on the train of logs to direct them. Additional scenes include a Chinese musical procession is photographed passing through a market street, where we also notice Chinese tailors catering to the growing number of foreigners settling and visiting China.
