[PHOTOGRAPHY]. [HEMINGWAY, Ernest (1899-1961), subject]. Pair of Original Black and White Snapshots of Hemingway's Friend, Henry Strater, with Sports Fish Caught by Him During a Fishing Expedition with Hemingway. [Bimini?, ca. 1935]. Photos approximately 4 x 5”.

Condition

Both lightly curled, one has small staple holes at upper left, the other has some discoloration in the image (most likely from the emulsion process). Fine. Both photos depict Hemingway's friend, artist Henry Strater (1896-1987) in undershirt and trousers holding his fishing pole, standing next to a hanging Marlin (partially gutted), and two other fish (there appears to be another fish inside the Marlin’s viscera). One photo is Strater alone with his prizes, the other depicts him with two unidentified adult men and a little girl. A similar photo had appeared in the July 1935 issue of Esquire. This large fish had been caught during Strater's big game fish expedition with his friend, Ernest Hemingway.
