Ralph Records remains considered of the country’s pioneering independent record labels; investing in experimental and avant-garde musicians of the time. Started by the avant-garde collective, The Residents, the label signed those who often combined visual art, performance, and conceptual ideas as much as music. Notable artists included: Snakefinger, Tuxedomoon, Renaldo & the Loaf, MX-80 Sound, Yello, Fred Frith, Nash the Slash, Clubfoot Orchestra and, of course, The Residents. Archive Includes:
Two pieces of The Residents band ephemera from their 1982-1983 Mole Show tour, a stage retelling of The Mark of the Mole and The Tunes of Two Cities albums, including:
- The Mole Show touring production credits
- The Residents / The Complete Residents Handbook flyer.
The theatrical production financially burdened Ralph Records and is cited as a catalyst for the label's eventual cessation.
Four Ralph Records catalogs including Vol. 1, No. 6 (October 1980), Vol. 1, No. 7 (April 1981), Vol. 2, No. 1 (the second ten years) and Vol. 2, No. 2 (September 1983). Volumes 6-7 include a Ralph Records $1.00 off coupon inside.
