RAMSAY, John. John Ramsay's Cups and Balls. Circa 1950. A set of two well-worn three-ounce British paper ice cream cups (?Snowfreeze" and ?Eldo" brand), along with four carved cork balls colored black and two larger blue sponge balls, all from the collection of noted sleight-of-hand magician John Ramsay of Ayr. Cups 2 ? x 2", and slightly out of round from years of storage. Housed in a paper box as found by Ramsay's only student, Andrew Galloway, and together with a letter of provenance from Galloway attesting to the provenance of the cups. Though Ramsay's work and methods are known to many magicians in the modern era, this is the first time a prop from his collection (other than the mass produced advertising thimbles bearing his name) has come to auction. Victor Farelli detailed Ramsay's routine with these cups in his 1948 book, John Ramsay's Routine with the Cups and Balls.
