Very good. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, PRESENTATION COPY, WARMLY INSCRIBED BY RAWLINGS ON THE FFEP.: ?Dear Mary Margaret ? This is our second and happy meeting during our own sojourn on the earth ? may there be many more ? with my love, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings ? January 19, 1953". Mary Margaret is most likely Mary Margaret McBride (1899-1976), a radio host who had interviewed Rawlings several times ? perhaps most notably in 1942 in which Rawlings stated she had shot blackbirds and baked them into a pie (a recipe for which is in Cross Creek Cookery, p. 119). McBride related in her 1956 cookbook, Harvest of American Cooking, that, after the 1942 broadcast, the sheriff called the station, informing Rawlings that she was violating state game laws, narrowly avoiding jail (in Cross Creek Cookery, Rawlings states that ?This dish is illegal?") From the renowned personal collection of Dr. George D. Lacy. Measurements: 8 x 5 x 1".
