Relics from Gen. Courtney Whitney?s Airplane Crash at Bolling Field. Washington D.C., ca. 1920s. Pair of artifacts comprised of a central portion of early wooden aircraft propeller adorned with prop and wings insignia and ?U.S.?; plus canvas flight helmet with plastic goggles fused to surface from heat of crash. Plastic still tacky and sticky; a very good grouping. Includes LOA from Whitney?s daughter-in-law, stating that the items were gifted to her Father-in-law as a memento of his good fortune.
