Original brown pebbled cloth with vignette stamped in gilt, spine stamped and lettered in gilt, publisher?s monogram blind stamped to rear board. First issue points present (with capital T in trees and "thirteenth" on page 156; issue point B on page 242, both words lacking; Capital E in Eastern on page 330; ad present on page 592 (no priority). Double frontispiece with tissue guard. Illustrated profusely with wood engravings. 8vo. xvii, 591, [1] ad. Spine ends chipped; bands protruding, gilt rubbed free from spine, corners rubbed and bumped, spotting to boards, front flyleaf partially torn, interior toned at margins, hinges starting. BAL 3337.
