[SAILOR?S ANCHOR CHARM]. Sailor?s Charm with Profile of Commodore Decatur. [Ca. 1800s]. Original brass sailor?s charm with suspension loop with double-sided profile medallion of Nelson. Approximately 6 x 3 ??. Minor occasional tarnishing. Near fine. This extremely rare piece was obviously manufactured for the American market by the same maker as the Nelson Charms above. Stephen Decatur was greatly admired by Nelson and later became famous for his leadership during the War of 1812. The fascinating aspect of this piece is that the maker, not having a die with the likeness of Decatur, simply used Napoleon as First Consul as a substitute!
