Samuel Hart & Co. Playing Cards. Philadelphia and New York, ca. 1868. 52 + J. With printed wrapper ?First Quality, No. 19 Single Heads? depicting a steamboat. Tax stamp retained in wax envelope. George and Martha Washington Ace of Spades (Hochman NY33) with Imperial Bower that Hochman lists as probably the first American joker (NY36). Entire deck was water-logged/wet inside the wrapper and shows staining at edges, with generally flimsy cards; some cards including Ace of Spades and Joker peeling from backings. Sold as-is.
