SHAIKHET, Arkady (Russian, 1898-1959). Unique Theatre of Workers' ClubCirca 1930s. Gelatin silver print. Inscribed with the title and "R 20 - U.S.S.R. Moscow." Various stickers, annotations in pencil, and stamps to reverse, including a 'Publishers' Photoservice, N.Y.' stamp. Sheet: 7 x 9 1/4". 

 

The present lot depicts the Rusakov Workers' Club (1927-1929), designed by Constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov. The building is famed for its "tensed muscle" shape, featuring three cantilevered, fan-shaped auditorium sections that project outward, which can be transformed into smaller or larger spaces via movable walls.

Condition

Minor scratches and surface dirt. Creasing, particularly to corners.
