[SHEET MUSIC]. [THE ?KNOW NOTHING? POLITICAL PARTY]. NICKS, Weiss. The Celebrated Know Nothing Song Composed and Dedicated to ?Know Nothing? by Weiss Nicks. Philadelphia: Lee & Walker, 1854. Rare sheet music and an unusual artifact for the short-lived nativist political party. 4to. [5 pp]. Original engraved self-wrappers. 13 x 10 ??. String-binding lacking string, spine worn, chipped due to removal of string binding, toned, foxed, soiled. Very good. Rare. The ?Know Nothing? party was deeply xenophobic (including anti-Irish, anti-Catholic, anti-German, etc.); it came from the older Whig party. ?Know Nothing? elected officials established various anti-immigrant laws throughout the country (for example, Chicago mayor Levi Boone forbade immigrants from having city jobs) From the Mark Rucker Collection.
