Circa 1913. 8 original unused real photo postcards captioned in Japanese, with original printed envelope. These represent the Japanese Antarctic Expedition, 1910-12, led by Lt. Nobu Shirase. Postcards of the expedition were produced after the return to Japan and used as part of a larger fundraising campaign to help pay for the expedition. Three of the postcards have small delicate kanji notations in light graphite on the back side. Ross 4.7.1A (?Rare?).
