[SILK SUSPENSION CLOCK]. ?Napoleon On Elba? Silk Suspension Mantle Clock. [France, ca. 1830]. This two color figural gold fired ormolu patina clock features Napoleon on the shores of his temporary island prison of Elba. His concentrated pose and full uniform with saber suggest he is in deep contemplation of his dramatic return to the throne, a feat he achieved in March, 1815. The heavy clock is bronze and gilt brass on a tiered base of scrolled feet. 12 x 15 ? x and 4 ??. The detail in Napoleon's figure and uniform, the rocks and wreath around the clock face are all breathtaking in their beauty. The silk thread movement is unsigned and has a gilt dial. Included are the original bell, pendulum and wind key. Fine with light wear to the painted numerals of the dial. Untested.
