A rare abolition broadsheet, published by the proprietor and editor of The National Era. Bailey edited numerous anti-slavery newspapers, all of which were attacked by pro-slavery mobs. In 1847, he took over The National Era which had considerable circulation nationally. In 1851-52, it published Harriet Beecher Stowe?s novel, Uncle Tom?s Cabin, in serial form.
