[SPACE FLIGHT PIONEER]. OBERTH, Hermann (1894-1989). The Moon Car. Translated from the German by Willy Ley. New York: Harper & Brothers, [1959]. 8vo. Frontispiece and numerous intertextual illustrations and tables. 98 pp. Publisher's blue cloth backstrip over black cloth boards, front board and spine stamped in orange, spine also stamped in silver, publisher's unclipped (?$2.95") dust jacket (jacket spine a bit toned, some marginal rubbing, wear to jacket). Near fine. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, SIGNED BY OBERTH ON THE FFEP. With the inkstamp and embossed ownership stamp of space travel writer and researcher, Mitchell Sharpe, both on the ffep. Oberth was a rocket scientist and physicist who envisioned several space travel and rocketry theories, many of which became foundational principles of modern space travel. The Moon Car theorized by Oberth was a large vehicle with one wheel or track on a large support leg (this leg is a large gas cylinder that can be used to hop or jump over obstacles).
